So what are candles wicks made of? The answer may surprise you! While many candles out there use flat wicks, which typically consist of braided cotton or other fibers, there’s another option - wooden wicks.

While we might be biased, we just want to point out that wooden candles are becoming increasingly popular due to their health benefits and the ambiance they create. They look great and smell fantastic – making them ideal home decor. So why not light up your life (literally) with a wooden wick candle today? With the variety of options available, you’re sure to find something that fits your style. You’ll be glad you did!

Let's take a look at the different types of candle wicks available:

Flat wicks are composed of braided cotton or fibers. They’re similar in shape to purses and backpack straps, and they are designed to curl as they are used. This results in a self-trimming effect.

Square wicks provide more stability to candles than flat ones; they also tend to self-trim slightly, but you’ll still need to trim them every now and then due to curling. They are rounder and sturdier, which allows them to stay upright longer while in use.

Cored wicks are composed of an inner core, usually cotton or zinc, with a fibrous outer layer. This type of wick stands up better and is famous for use in container candles. Unfortunately, they are prone to mushrooming, so you may need to trim them more regularly.

Wooden wicks are constructed from natural wood, making them eco-friendly and sustainable. Plus, they have a slower burn rate and produce a crackling sound reminiscent of a fire or fireplace! Be sure to trim them regularly, though, as they can become charred and misshapen over time.

Finally, we have specialty wicks. These range from those designed for oil lamps to ones explicitly created for insect-repelling candles or other products. If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary, this is the way to go!

No matter which type of candle wick you choose, remember that the key to a successful burn is preparation. Always ensure that your candle is placed on a flat, stable surface and away from any drafts or other sources of heat. Lastly, trim your wick to ¼ inch before each use and adjust the flame as needed during burning. This will guarantee an even burn every time!

The proper wick can make all the difference when enjoying your favorite scented candles. While at Cosmic Green Candles, we prefer wooden wicks (clean burn for the win) – you’re sure to find one that fits your lifestyle and creates just the right atmosphere for relaxation.
